Introduction to Forgotten Realms setting
Forgotten Realms is an old campaign setting, heavily established by TSR and Wizards of the Coast. Primarily it is a shared setting for numerous fantasy novels and dungeons and dragons games. However, it loses popularity and many deemed the setting is dull and boring; especially due to the excess DM characters and author's plot armor on their characters.
The very basic of Forgotten Realms is Medieval Fantasy at its core. So a world similar to Tolkien's Lords of the Rings, but with less epic magic in play is quite common. Most people are human scattered on many metropolis, which in turn surrounded by minor small towns and settlements. Racial tensions are quite common, and adventurers filled the role of general trouble shooter, mercenary-for-hire, or simply pawns.
Common theme of Forgotten Realms resolve on the gods playing, and demigods here and there doing lots of things. This causes the setting loses its charm quickly; because it put any campaigns and any novels as canon; instead of alternate. So when each gods are doing something, any quests or any stories will feel less 'important'. Actually, if we separate each novels, each adventures/campaigns, as a stand-alone story in 'alternate Forgotten Realms', they are great.
The Nations
There are many famous nations, but for this campaign, it will be limited to several only.
We have Amn, the southern mercantile power. We have Tethyr, land of conflicts and golds. We have the noble nobility of Cormyr. We have the arabian nights at Calimshan. We have mysterious Thay and its neighbors. We have far-eastern Karatur. We have northern alliances at Silver Marches.
Each nations usually have their languages, but for simplicity, this campaign will use only these languages (assuming dialects exist):
a. Chondathan: commonly used at Cormyr, sometimes also used at Amn and Sword Coast
b. Damaran: commonly used at Thay, sometimes also used at Calimshan
c. Alzhedo: commonly used at Calimshan, sometimes also used at Tethyr
d. Thorass: commonly used at Tethyr, sometimes also used at Amn
e. Northern: commonly used at Silver Marches, sometimes also used at Western Heartlands and Sword Coast
f. Shou: used at Karatur
